For the 1969 race season, Polaris got their first batch of the new motors they had worked together with Fuji Industries of Japan to create. One of the very first ones was the monster 800cc twin free-air motors.
Jerry Reece worked with Fuji from the very beginning of the relationship to design and built all the race and consumer motors from Fuji, and this was primarily to give Polaris an edge on the competition, but having their very own motors, just as Ski-Doo had their Rotax engines.
Jerry Reece built this very unique twin 800cc engine race sled for the 1969 season and did very very well on it. Riding it, he found it to have all the speed and power he wanted, but the handling, as you can imagine, was not excellent.
Sadly, no one knows what happened to this mega-phone monster, but we all hold out hope we’ll find it one day!
