1976: With tough budget cuts to the race department, the Starfire Kids had to take 76 Starfires off the production line and modify them with parts from ’73 Starfires. They used a new liquid coooled kit motor that was down on horsepower from the years before.
This led the team to believe their best hope for 1976 was 1977. But after a poor performance at Eagle River, corporate started to pay attention, and the motors for 1977 were ordered, setting the stage for the Midnight Blue Express to emerge.
This is the poster I created for a sled display at the Polaris 50th anniversary.
