In December of 1977, I was fourteen and watching the races at the famous Dayco Holiday Spectacular and was snapping pictures as fast as I could replace rolls of film (remember those???) in my little camera.
I snapped this photo of Bunke, with Jim Belike of Race & Rally was right in front of me taking pictures of his own. I remember thinking “I wish I could take as good of pictures as Jim does!”
It was a tough weekend for the Midnight Blue Express. Doug Hayes and his Ski-Doo’s were on fire, and Doug walked away with the famous Hetteen cup. But Jerry Bunke drew first blood, winning on his slick little 250.
This machine has recently been found, in great condition, and in the collection of a couple of the nicest people on earth.
