A few weeks back I posted some photos of the Scott Johnson Formula 500 sled that he and his team designed to be a modern day “Midnight Blue Express” sled, decked out in the Starfire Kids logos. The sled design was a hit with everyone who saw it. And the video of them testing at Strathcona proved she is no show queen – she is built for speed!
Well it appears that having a Starfire Kids design makes sleds go faster. A lot faster. It’s as thought he spirit of the Starfire Kids are helping out during the races.
Not only did Blaine Stephenson become the new World Champion with his sled decked out in Midnight Blue colors (and the last Champ motor built by Larry Rugland), but Madison Phillips won the PRO WOMENS 5-500 World Championship. Somewhere, Dorothy Mercer is having a beer in your honor Madison! Way to go!
And there’s more! Keith Wojciechowski (aka “Wojo”) won PRO FORMULA 500 AND PRO 500/600 Combo World Championships on the very same sled! As Scott put it, “A great weekend for more Starfire Kids and Johnson Racing taking home three World Championship Titles!”
What Madison, Scott and Keith may not know is that none other than Bob Eastman was watching the races all weekend long and cheering them on.
Nice work and I hope we see many more Starfire Kids inspired racers take the chance at their dreams.
Here’s some closeups of the sled:
