Polaris RXL Suspensions Demystified

1978 Polaris RXL Suspension

Intro

It’s important to note that the skids used in the 1977 factory sleds, were in fact, Arctic Cat Z skids that were modified. They were mostly 1975 and 1976 Arctic Cat Z skids, primarily with the front adjustment arm changed from the plastic Cat version to a bolt. In comparing seven different 1977 machines, I found the skids were rarely the same. I don’t know if that was something each driver did, or if people running the machines after 1977 modified.

1978

For 1978, Polaris made their own skid for the RXL, and it is really close to a Cat Z skid, except all the pieces and parts are just different enough to avoid any patent issues.

THIS IS A CORRECT 1978 RXL REAR SUSPENSION:

1973 SUspensions

For comparisons sake, this is a 1973 Starfire suspension. The 1974, 1975 and 1976 factory SnoPro sleds all used a shortened, modified and lightened version of this skid.

The Cat Z Skids

Remember these are stock. The ones used in the 1977 Polaris factory sleds were modified.
